Berkowitz Releases Position Statement on Veterans’ Issues

Today Congressional candidate Ethan Berkowitz released a new position statement on Veteran’s issues. The statement covers Berkowitz’s positions on health care, benefits and the new G.I. Bill, saying “Alaska has the highest per capita population of veterans in the country. It’s important to make Veterans’ issues Alaskan and American issues, and I plan to do so when I represent our state in Washington DC.”

DCCC Unveils Third Wave of Red To Blue

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced today the next round of candidates who earned a spot in the DCCC’s highly competitive Red to Blue program. These 14 candidates qualified for the third round of the Red to Blue program by surpassing demanding fundraising goals and skillfully demonstrating to voters that they stand for change and will represent new priorities when elected to Congress.

Energy is the issue facing our state and our country. Every day, Alaskans are confronted with crippling prices at the gas pump and when we pay our electric and heating bills. It’s not just fuel and electricity, either: in the last year, higher transportation costs have led to skyrocketing prices at the grocery store. This winter, particularly in rural Alaska, I fear that too many Alaskans will be forced to choose between heating and eating. High energy prices are at the root of our stalled economy, and we cannot build America until we solve this problem.

Alaska’s State and Municipal Employees Back Berkowitz

Yesterday Alaska’s largest union of public employees, ASEA/AFSCME Local 52, announced their endorsement of Ethan Berkowitz’s candidacy for Alaska’s seat in the United States Congress. ASEA/AFCSME Local 52 represents more than 8,500 state and municipal employees in the state of Alaska.

Poll shows Don Young trailing by 20 points against Democrat

A new poll shows that the two longtime Republican elected officials from Alaska, Sen. Ted Stevens and Rep. Don Young, face serious obstacles to winning reelection. Young is in even worse shape. The 17-term congressman trails former state Rep. Ethan Berkowitz, his likely Democratic opponent, by a 20-point margin — 58 percent to 38 percent. A 52-percent majority of voters said they held a negative opinion of Young, while Berkowitz holds strong favorable ratings.

Poll Finds Trouble For Alaska Republicans

A new Alaska poll finds long-time Republican incumbents, Sen. Ted Stevens and Rep. Don Young, trailing against their likely opponents this November. In a general election match-up, Berkowitz has a healthy margin over Young, 58%-38%. About one-third of respondents have a positive view of Young, while a majority, 52%, have a negative opinion.

A new survey taken for an independent group shows Senator Ted Stevens and Rep. Don Young, both long-time Republican incumbents, trailing in their bids for re-election, thanks in large part to a scandal involving an oil services corporation that has already ensnared several GOP state legislatures. The poll has good news for Democrats.
