New media front and center in U.S. House race

Candidates for Alaska’s sole seat in the U.S. House of Representatives are finding that today’s political battleground extends well beyond conventional media, with hit-and-run attacks on blogs and even guerrilla video postings. But most campaign officials in the congressional race say they don’t think it’s out of control — at least not yet.

“Alaska has one of the highest rates of Internet connectivity in the nation,” said Joe Hardenbrook, campaign manager for Democratic House hopeful Ethan Berkowitz. “Alaskans are web savvy, they’re technically savvy — they know when people are deliberately misleading them.”
