That’s why they call it a party

“Work. Solve Problems. Get Things Done.” That was the message being pushed by the Democrats at their state convention at the Palmer Fairgrounds last weekend. Those words, emblazoned on a sign above the podium, were repeated like a mantra several times by Kay Brown, the party’s communications director, when she opened the weekend and introduced an 18-person line of Democratic candidates sitting in front of the stage. Elsewhere in the cavernous Raven Hall, candidates were luring wanderers with snacks. Ethan Berkowitz, running for Don Young’s U.S. House seat, had Red Vines in a jar that read “AK Red to Blue Vines.”
