ASEA/AFCSME Local 52 endorses Ethan Berkowitz
Yesterday Alaska’s largest union of public employees, ASEA/AFSCME Local 52, announced their endorsement of Ethan Berkowitz’s candidacy for Alaska’s seat in the United States Congress.
ASEA/AFCSME Local 52 represents more than 8,500 state and municipal employees in the state of Alaska.
“It is an honor to receive the support of a union that represents so many hard-working people,” Berkowitz said. “During my years in the State House I developed a strong appreciation for these Alaskans who provide essential services to all of us.”
“From firefighters in Ketchikan to probation officers in Nome, municipal and state employees keep Alaska safe and strong. They protect our children and families from harm.” Berkowitz said.
“During Ethan’s service in the Alaska State Legislature, he fought for Alaskans and their families at every turn. His tireless energy and superior understanding of the issues will serve Alaska well as our next congressman,” said Jim Duncan, Business Manager of ASEA/AFSCME Local 52.
During Ethan’s service in the State legislature, he supported local hire and project labor agreements, advocated for increasing the minimum wage and opposed decreases to workers compensation. He opposed “Right to Work” legislation and led the fight to protect the Public Employee Retirement System and Teachers Retirement System (PERS/TRS).
Ethan Berkowitz served in the Alaska State House from 1996-2006, and was the Democratic Leader from 1998-2006.
