Berkowitz files 1st quarterly FEC report

April 14th, 2008

Candidate has lead over other Democrats in House race

Today, Congressional candidate Ethan Berkowitz filed his Federal Election Commission report for the first quarter of 2008.

During the first three months of the year, Berkowitz raised $277,066 from 938 contributors. The campaign has almost $290,000 cash-on-hand. This amounts to the largest fundraising quarter of any Alaska Democrat running against Don Young in recorded FEC history.

“I’m proud to have earned the support of people across Alaska. Together we’ve built a strong foundation for a successful campaign,” said Berkowitz.

Since entering the race late last fall, Berkowitz has raised $401,267 from 1,365 separate contributors and 1,577 total contributions. More than 82 percent of the contributors are Alaskans – and many more are former Alaskans.

“From Ketchikan to Kenai to Nome to Fairbanks to Palmer and places in between, Alaskans are ready for a new direction and new leadership,” said Berkowitz.

“We’re running this as an independent, self-reliant, grassroots campaign, and it means a lot to me to have so much support from across Alaska - and even across America. We’ve received contributions from teachers, fishermen, veterans, CEOs, machinists, nurses, Congressmen, tour operators, mayors, assemblymen, school board members, legislators, and my 100 year-old grandmother.”
