Letter to Alaska Wilderness Recreation & Tourism Association members
February 19th, 2008
Dear AWRTA Member,
I’ve had amazing opportunities to travel the world, including time as a guide and shipboard observer in the Antarctic.
Here at home, I’ve sport fished, hiked and boated across Alaska and have great memories that include crossing the Harding Icefield, building a camp behind Knik Glacier, and snowmachining from Manley to Nome.
My experiences, and my efforts in the state legislature and as the founder of a renewable energy company make it clear that Alaskans have a responsibility to take leadership in addressing global warming. In Congress, I will continue leading the way for energy independence and sustainable business opportunities.
That’s why I salute AWRTA’s focus on climate change and sustainable tourism. Thank you also for updating the old adage, “take only pictures, leave only footprints” by ensuring that those are only small carbon footprints!
Warm Regards,
