This is an exciting time
January 31st, 2008
Next week, “Super Tuesday” comes to visit, and it’s our turn to participate in the presidential primaries. This is our chance to speak out for the candidate we support and the change we want, and I hope Alaska sets record levels of participation.
I look forward to enthusiastic, positive and respectful discussion. That’s a hallmark of a healthy democracy. It helps that there is a strong field of contenders this year.
At my caucus, I will be supporting Senator Barack Obama. I may not agree with Senator Obama on all the issues, but I believe he offers a unique ability to successfully lead the country because he represents a new kind of politics. Like me, Senator Obama believes that the politics of division have to give way so America can be the country it is supposed to be.
In addition, Senator Obama has a strong Alaska connection: his chief-of-staff in the United States Senate, Pete Rouse, has Alaska roots and has a deep understanding of our state.
Whether you’re a Democrat or Republican, or an independent who wants to join one of the parties for the day, please join me in participating in these caucuses. Contact your party of choice and find out how you can get involved. We can’t let the Lower 48 have all the fun, and they can’t rightly call it “Super Tuesday” without us.
Warm regards,
